4 · THURSDAY, AUGUST 3, 2017 this year is “Autumn Tints,” and the photography contest features “Old Wooden Outhouses” as its theme. Dozens of competitors will be judged in those competi-tions, while other needlework, photos and handmade crafts will be displayed at this year’s fair. Apart from the fields of com-petition, plenty of farm products will be on sale, as the Butler Farm Show’s timing in August makes it perfect for the start of harvest season. “Some other shows are too early for farm products, but ours is jammed full of everything from canned goods to corn, wheat, flowers — all things grown and made right here in Butler County,” Lokhaiser said. The Butler Farm Show also has a pair of week-long exhibits for both young and old to enjoy. The American Heritage Showcase antiques display, open each day at 10 a.m., is a self-guided tour through a series of free-standing displays show-ing the machines and tools that helped improve the farm lifestyle through the years. The showcase includes antique tractors, equipment, gas engines and household items that will bring you from the early days of farming in Pennsyl-vania to the present. Vogel Valley’s Miniature Farm Display will be located near the antiques showcase. Open from 1 to 9 p.m. daily, this intricate diorama of country life features more than 2,000 pieces repre-senting all aspects of farm life, from planting and harvesting to dairy production. Each night also features a main event in the arena, including a tractor pull Tuesday, Figure-8 races Thursday, demoli-tion derby Friday and the road semi and tri-axle pull to close out the week Saturday. Best of all, the cost of each ticket to the fair is just $8 daily, which includes all exhibits, shows and rides (arena events cost an additional $4). “We’re the type of farm show that appeals to the family,” Lokhaiser said. “Kids have a great opportunity to see the animals up close and ride rides, and there’s plenty for parents to see and do, too.” SUBMITTED FROM · 2 Steve Heasley’s Butler Gymnastics Club & Butler Dance Center Our State-of-the-art facility is one of Pennsylvania’s best training facilities!
